In the last few years Mark Zuckerberg has become a household name. He’s the founder as well as Chairman and CEO of Facebook. Mark created the product and manages the direction for the overwhelmingly successful company*.
Liberty National on Facebook
Have you seen the award winning film The Social Network that documents the true story of Zuckerberg’s creation of Facebook and the trials and setbacks he encountered on the road to success? In the film Jesse Eisenberg plays Zuckerberg, a college student who dreamed of bringing students, cliques, fraternities, etc., together through the use of a social networking site. Zuckerberg was just a kid studying computer science at Harvard University when he developed his social network that later completely changed the way the world looked at networking online.
Facebook was founded in 2004 with initial hopes of connecting Harvard students online. Zuckerberg believed in a site that could transform the college experience and bring people closer together. Over time, other colleges gained access, then high school students. And now as long as you have Internet access, you have Facebook access. Today one in every 13 people on earth is on Facebook, and the site has more than 650 million active users*. Pretty impressive results for an idea dreamed up in a college dorm room, wouldn’t you say?
Over the years Facebook has had many facelifts, endured numerous changes, and taken much criticism and scrutiny from users and non-users alike. Facebook is just a part of daily life for most of us now. Want to learn more about someone or stay in touch? All you have to do is ‘friend’ them on Facebook. It’s hard to remember the days before social network sites, relationship statuses, and ‘likes’!
