Anita Roddick was a human rights activist, environmentalist, and founder of The Body Shop. The Body Shop prides itself as a cosmetic company producing products on the basis of ethical consumerism*.
Anita helped ensure The Body Shop was one of the first cosmetic companies to outlaw the use of anything that had been tested on animals. Anita also made sure her company promoted fair trade with other countries.
Anita was at the heart of many environmental and social campaigns. She founded charities and built a respectable brand that became most popular in Britain. Queen Elizabeth II even named Anita Dame as Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2003. Before Anita’s unfortunate death in 2007, she sold The Body Shop to L’Oreal for millions of dollars*.
Anita’s vision and conviction made a difference in not only the cosmetics industry, but also in consumers looking for ‘green’ products from reputable companies.
