Sami Nizam – Liberty National Life Senior Vice President

As I celebrate my 31st anniversary with this great Company, I have a lot to be thankful for. My life has been truly blessed in so many ways, and one of the most important is my association with Liberty National.

Liberty National affords each of us an amazing opportunity – the opportunity to be a leader. It doesn’t matter what our current position is with the Company; we all have the opportunity to lead, to enhance our own leadership skills, and to develop future leaders.

But what makes a good leader? I could give you a long list based on my decades of experience with Liberty National, but instead I’ll share just one with you, because I believe without it the others won’t matter.

I think the most important quality a leader must possess is the ability to inspire. Consider just a few individuals who are considered great leaders — President John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., the Reverend Billy Graham, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Jack Welch. Whether political, religious, or business leaders, the ability to inspire others is what make them great leaders. After all, can you even imagine a United States without “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country,” or “I have a dream”?

The ability to inspire is the first and most important quality of leadership. But it doesn’t have to be inspiration on the grand scale of Kennedy or King. You inspire by the enthusiasm you bring each day to your team, by an encouraging word to a coworker, by helping someone find the solution to a problem. Inspiration can be simple or it can be grand. The important thing is that someone responds to it.

Liberty Leadership Academy is an excellent example of the ability to inspire. And I don’t mean only the speakers. Attendees are always a source of inspiration and leadership for me. Their enthusiasm and excitement about becoming the future leaders of this Company and sharing their leadership qualities make me proud to be associated with individuals of their caliber. They inspire me, and I hope I inspire them as well.

Do you have the ability to inspire, to be a great leader? Maybe it’s time you find out!
